Remote terminal session and audio over AREDN - video/audio using TightVNC and Mumble

I am posting this as a new topic that others may later search for and use, as I had earlier intermingled it with a discussion on routing AllStar over AREDN. This post should be easier to search for.
In summary - if you need access to a remote PC terminal session (in my case, running FT8 on a remote HF station accessed via AREDN), TightVNC does an excellent job as it doesn't require any connection to a web hosted server to authenticate the session. It is also unencrypted. They also have both PC and a Mac Client (the latter is called "Ripple").

TightVNC does not support audio though. So if you want to hear alerts from JT-Alert or other computer system sounds, you will need to setup an audio link. I have now tested Mumble (and the server Murmur) and it works well. It is open source. You setup the server on one end (the remote in my case) and connect the client on each end to that server. You will need to grab the configuration Mumble.ice file from github and modify to set a password but otherwise it is pretty much an out of the box setup. I recommend using the Voice Activated setting instead of "continuous" otherwise you may be streaming useless packets over the network which of course is not desirable.
TightVNC/Ripple/Mumble are all free.

One last thing, Mumble sends audio from mic-in. So you need to use VB Cables or Virtual Audio Cable to cross connect speaker out to mic-in. I used VAC and it worked without having to make any changes to the settings.
